Turkish media: Some Iranian planes refused fuel there

Reuters: ANKARA According to  بلیط استانبول به تبریز, some Iranian aircraft were denied fuel in Turkey's Istanbul airports on Friday, forcing them to cancel at least one flight. Other airlines were forced to reduce the number of passengers on board in order to fly using less fuel. According to the independent Demiroren news agency, Turkey's Petrol Ofisi, a division of Vitol Investment Partnership Ltd., denied fuel to Iranian aircraft in Turkey.

Tehran and Istanbul flights are run by Iran's Mahan Air, ATA Airlines, Qeshm Airlines, and Iran Aseman Airlines. Eight countries will be exempt for the time being from the threat of U.S. economic sanctions when U.S. sanctions resume on Monday, according to a statement made by the United States on Friday. Turkey heavily relies on imports to meet its energy needs, and due to Iran's proximity, high-quality crude, and advantageous price differentials, traders say Iran has been one of Turkey's main sources of oil.

Although U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has not specified the jurisdictions.

Turkey's Energy Minister Fatih Donmez claimed Turkey had been informed it would receive a waiver on the restrictions At least one flight to Iran had been cancelled, according to the website of Istanbul's Ataturk airport, while several others had taken off after being delayed. The website indicated that at least three flights had departed on time. According to Petrol Ofisi, which was cited by the Turkish newspaper Haberturk, it had informed the carriers that it would not be supplying fuel to Iranian airline companies.

Petrol Ofisi was unavailable, and Vitol declined to comment.

Iranian charter airline ATA Airlines informed the Demiroren news agency that in order to obtain additional fuel from Iran, they had to reduce the number of passengers on a flight from Istanbul to Tabriz, in northwest Iran, from 160 to 100.

If we can't get fuel from both destinations, we won't be able to carry all of the passengers. Businesses would suffer losses, and it would harm Turkish tourism, according to Behzad Atarod, ATA Airlines' Istanbul manager.
